We’re joined by Nicholas Eftimiades, a career CIA, DIA & State Department veteran and recognized subject matter expert in Chinese intelligence & espionage conducted by organizations including the PRC Ministry of State Security, People’s Liberation Army, state-owned enterprises, and private companies.

Nick has catalogued over 700 cases of PRC espionage to date, which spans the public, private & academic sectors and presents a major supply chain security challenge both in China and abroad. A summary and analysis of cases reported can be found in his “Chinese Espionage Tradecraft Summary”, published in 2019.

Nick is an American government official, author, and educator best known for his work “Chinese Intelligence Operations”, and retired after a 34 year government career including employment in the CIA as a Technical Operations Officer, a Special Agent in the US Department of State, the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, and as a Senior Intelligence Officer in the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).

Nick was also a Senior Research Fellow at King’s College War Studies Department, London UK. He has an M.S. in Strategic Intelligence, National Defense Intelligence College; and a B.A. East Asian Studies, George Washington University.

In Nov 2020, Nick served on the Economic Security Subcommittee of the Homeland Security Advisory Council, which published a report proposing a DHS supply chain intelligence center to help secure America’s critical supply chain infrastructure. He currently works as an assistant teaching professor in the Penn State Homeland Security Program. His views are his own, and do not represent Penn State.
